About the current Norfolk & Suffolk ME/CFS Service

ME/CFS is a Long Term Neurological Condition yet the standard of care provided for people with ME/CFS in Norfolk and Suffolk falls well below that offered to patients with other neurological conditions, for example Multiple Sclerosis. The staff at the ME/CFS Service are doing their best under difficult circumstances.

However, the current Norfolk & Suffolk ME/CFS Service:

  • does not provide a consultant
  • does not provide ongoing care
  • does not provide a service for patients too unwell to travel
  • does not provide acute or emergency care
  • does not prescribe medications
  • does not provide any specialist medical testing
  • does not train GP’s and other healthcare professionals
  • is only available in one location (Great Yarmouth)
  • has long waiting lists (currently 6 months to see a specialist GP)
  • has not undertaken patient satisfaction surveys
  • does not comply with all of the Quality Requirements in the National Service Framework for Long Term Neurological Conditions

The results of our patient surveys have formed the basis of negotiations with the NHS.
